Gathaafai Full Set

Kasabu is an art form that defines Maldivian heritage as well as fashion, and at the heart of this illustrious process is the humble gathaa fai and foali. Made from locally sourced funa or hirundhu wood, our gathaa fai typically has an outside diameter of 8 inches and a height of 7 inches. Carved and lacquered to perfection these sturdy bases provide the ideal piece for the gathaa pillow to rest on. This signature piece also highlights the freedom and creativity throughout it’s drawings which are etched out by hand, a hallmark of it’s authenticity. Complimenting our gathaa fai, is our foali collection, also crafted with machine like precision from locally sourced kuredhi, they have a length of around 5 inches and a diameter of approximately 15 mm at thickest part. They are typically painted red and black to match the long history of lacquer work showcased on the gathaa fai.
